Karena has a Bachelor of Life Science from the Hogeschool Arnhem and Nijmgen. Before coming to work at The National Centre for Indigenous Genomics, Karena worked in Genetics at the University of Queensland.
Karena took up the position of Research Officer with NCIG in mid 2013 where she manages the extensive biological sample collection related to the centre.
