Title
Correspondence from T. Milliken to R.L. Kirk
Description

Correspondence from Ted Milliken (Assistant Director Research, Welfare Branch, Northern Territory Administration) to R.L. Kirk ( 21/11/1969) informing Kirk that he has negotiated finally with the Chairman of Methodist Overseas Mission for Miss Halley to go to Elcho for five weeks, on the condition that she works in one place and does not roam through the camp at free will. He attaches copies of the correspondence with Dave Morris for Kirk to read. Mr Symons and Mr Milliken believe that Miss Halley was probably indiscreet in some of her statements regarding staff attitudes to Aboriginal people and that the staff wives took objection to this. It is considered that her comments have been greatly exaggerated but that she does have the unhappy knack of rubbing people up the wrong way. He acknowledges Miss Halley's great devotion to her job and that she is painstaking and careful to obtain accurate results. He is attaching a letter to Miss Halley requesting that she inform him of the status of the Elcho Island genealogies on which she has been working as he would like to pass on to Mrs Campbell whatever information she has available upon her return from Elcho Island in mid December.
