This file contains information on the location of Aboriginal samples in the John Curtin School of Medical Research. It contains a short report written by David Betty in 1996, entitled, 'Sources of IBP blood samples held at JCSMR'. There is a photocopy of a journal article from Journal of Medical Ethics (1999) 25:204-208. 'Indigenous Peoples and the Morality of the Human Genome Diversity Project'. The remaining material comprises correspondence between Professor S.W. Serjeantson and Dr Randolph Spargo (Kimberly Health Region, Derby WA); between Professor S.W. Serjeantson and Ms Sheila van Holst Pellekaan (Lecturer, Department of Life Sciences, Sydney University) ; and between Ms Sheila van Holst Pellekaan and Simon Easteal (John Curtin School of Medical Research, ANU) , Kevin Cox (Director, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service's Council, Broome, WA), John Liddle (Director, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress Inc, Alice Springs), Jane Hill (SPO-Anthropology, Northern Land Council, NT), and Kaisu Vartto (Health Service Manager, Nganampa Health Council, Alice Springs). This file also contains confidential correspondence between Grant R Sutherland (Women's and Children's Hospital, Adelaide) and Simon Easteal concerning the proposal to use genetic material from Australian Aboriginals in the Human Genome Diversity Project (HGDP). There is also email correspondence between L. Luca Cavalli-Sforza (Chairman, International Executive committee of the HGDP, Genetics Department, Stanford Medical School, California) and Grant Sutherland discussing Aboriginal participation in the HGDP, and similarly between Grant R Sutherland and John Mathews (Menzies School of Health Research, Darwin) informing him of Cavalli-Sforza's intention to use Aboriginal cell lines. There is also correspondence from Professor Jean Dausset (President, CEPH or Human Polymorphism Study Center) to colleagues (31/3/1999) attaching a letter from Professor L.L. Cavalli-Sforza describing the first HGDP initiative involving the collection of 1000 lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) from individuals representing the populations of the 'world'.
