Event Sunday Dreaming
Summary
Sunday Dreaming is the name given by the Canberra Medical Society to its semi-regular fundraising events in support of Indigenous health causes. Since 2002 the Canberra Medical Society has helped to 'close the gap' on Indigenous health issues with mammogram screening in the Tiwi Islands, cataract surgery for the Yuendumu community, ear surgery for children of the Warlpiri people, and dialysis support. In 2007 the Society created the Sunday Dreaming community event to support doctors, with significant funds raised throughout Indigenous art auctions. The Society has a particularly close association with the artists of Yuendumu.

In 2015 the Society committed to the research being undertaken through the ANU's National Centre for Indigenous Genomics, organising two events to auction and sell Indigenous artworks ranging from museum-quality collectors pieces to affordable home decorator pieces. A preview event was held at The John Curtin School of Medical Research at The Australian National University on 30 April 2015. The main event was hosted by His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) in the grounds of Government House on Sunday 3 May. Works from Yuendumu, Fitzroy Crossing and the Tiwi Islands were featured.
The combined events attracted significant support from Canberra's community and resulted in significant sales for the artists, and a welcome financial contribution to support the work of NCIG.
