Summary
Meekatharra is a town in the mid west region of Western Australia, 764 km north-east of Perth. It is a service centre for pastoral stations, mines and mining companies providing stores, fuel, postal and banking services to the Murchison region of Western Australia. In 2011, the population was 812 with 47% being of Aboriginal descent. Meekatharra was established as a gold rush town in 1894 but the town only survived because of the arrival of the railway in 1910. The railway served the local pastoral interests from 1910 until 1978.
