Summary
Marble Bar is situated 218 km southeast of Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of north-western Western Australia. Gold was discovered in 1890 and the town was officially gazetted in 1893 at which time the population was around 5000. These days the population is approximately 510 (2011 census). The climate is arid with very hot summers and mild to warm winters and it is known as the hottest town in Australia. Marble Bar is part of Nyamal country and the Nyamal language spoken in Marble Bar is Wirtakarri.
