Place Bagot
Northern Territory
Summary
Bagot is a small northern suburb of the city of Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. The Bagot community was formed in 1938 as an Aboriginal Reserve for people coming to Darwin from remote settlements and as part of the policy of assimilation. It is home to around 400 people (in 2013 ) from around the Northern Territory. The dominant language is Kriol and the Indigenous culture remains strong; the children being taken hunting for crab and shellfish and the local women painting together.
