Summary
The Arnhem Land region covers an area of 97,000 square km in the north-eastern corner of the Northern Territory in Australia. It is bordered by Kakadu National Park, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria. There are three main centres: Jabiru, Maningrida and Nhulunbuy or Gove. Arnhem Land has been occupied by Indigenous people for tens of thousands of years and is home to some of the finest examples of Aboriginal rock art. The Yolngu people are the traditional owners of Arnhem Land and have been in the area for at least 60,000 years.
